President Biden is launching a federal task force after The U.S. Supreme Court formally refused to block the controversial new abortion law In Texas.
The President blasted the high court's decision and ensured a total federal effort against the law in a statement. It reads in part.
"By allowing a law to go into effect that empowers private citizens in Texas to sue health care providers, family members supporting a woman exercising her right to choose after six weeks, or even a friend who drives her to a hospital or clinic, it unleashes unconstitutional chaos and empowers self-anointed enforcers to have devastating impacts. Complete strangers will now be empowered to inject themselves in the most private and personal health decisions faced by women."
Late last night, the five to four decision is not about the constitutionality of the Texas law and that challenges can continue in courts.
The law, which took effect yesterday, prevents women from getting abortions after six weeks of gestation.
It also allows private citizens to sue anyone who helps a woman obtain an abortion.
