As the Second World War erupted around Europe, many different countries found themselves living within Nazi occupation in which they were ruled over by the Germans. There was a significant amount of resistance against the occupiers in different countries such as France and also the Netherlands. Many people took up arms to sabotage the German war effort, and one of these was Hannie Schaft who was known as, 'The Girl With The Red Hair.'

Hannie Schaft was a university student when she was forced to sign her support for the Nazis, however when she refused she was forced to leave and then she joined the Dutch resistance. She began with small acts such as stealing ID cards, but then began to become more violent. She carried out murder against Nazi collaborators, and was considered very dangerous by the enemy. She was a hunted woman, and to convince her to give herself up the Germans even arrested her parents.

However she was eventually captured, and then was held in prison in Amsterdam. Shortly before World War 2 came to an end, she was taken to some dunes in the Netherlands and executed a month before the war ended.
