Integrating Trauma-Informed Responses for Youth and Adults in the Justice System
Rates of post-traumatic stress disorder and exposure to violence among people who are incarcerated are much higher than among those in the general population. Trauma-informed care helps to identify trauma and its symptoms among people in custody, train staff to understand the impact of trauma, and minimize re-traumatization. At this plenary, Administrator Listenbee will provide an overview of the relevance of trauma-informed care in the juvenile justice system and panelists will discuss how these strategies translate to working with adults in correctional settings.
