(11 Apr 2016) A group migrants and human rights activists met on Monday with Mexican social organisations before traveling to New York for a UN special summit on drugs.
Members of the 'the Caravan for Peace, Life and Justice' include Catholic Church clergy, social rights representatives and investigators, and come from different parts of the Americas, primarily Central America.
The group started their journey in Honduras in late March and has travelled through El Salvador, Guatemala and Mexico - some of the places most affected by the 'war on drugs', which they define as a "failed" policy.
Cases of displaced people, kidnappings, mass killings by both criminal organisations and state authorities were discussed during the meeting.
The special session of the UN General Assembly will be held between 19-21 April in New York.
