Trump's first impeachment - 2020
Sen. Angus King, I-Maine, told PBS NewsHour anchor and managing editor Judy Woodruff on Jan. 29 that he does not think the arguments made by President Donald Trump’s legal team against calling witnesses in the impeachment trial “doesn’t pass the straight face test.” He said the argument that calling witnesses would take too long and impede other Senate business is “ridiculous.” King said he expects Friday’s vote on whether to call witnesses to be decided by only a few votes. The Maine senator spoke with the PBS NewsHour after senators spent the first day asking questions of the House managers and Trump’s legal team. The House of Representatives impeached Trump in December on two articles -- abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. The questions come ahead of a vote on whether to bring forward witnesses and documents as part of the Senate trial. The senate must now decide whether to acquit the president or convict him of the charges and remove him from office.
