Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., questioned George Kent, deputy assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian affairs, about what U.S. military assistance to Ukraine entails. The questioning came on Nov. 13, the first day of the first public hearing in the impeachment inquiry against President Donald Trump. The probe centers around a July phone call in which Trump asked the president of Ukraine to investigate former vice president and 2020 presidential candidate Joe Biden and his son, Hunter. Both Kent and Taylor testified to lawmakers in October behind closed doors. Taylor testified during his opening statement at the top of the hearing that members of his staff overheard Trump asking about "the investigations" during a call with Trump that Ambassador to the European Union Gordon Sondland made from a restaurant.
