At approximately 11:40 a.m. on Monday, September 9, the Pottsville Police Department, Pottsville Fire Department and Pope County EMS were dispatched to Bud Chesney Road, south of State Highway 247, on a report of a motor vehicle collision with injury.
The 911 caller reporting the crash advised dispatch that a vehicle was had struck a tree and it appeared as though one of the vehicle's occupants was trapped in the car.
After receiving the report of possible entrapment, 911 dispatchers requested the response of Pope County EMS Rescue. As EMS Rescue 140 checked en route to the call, officers with the Pottsville Police Department, the Pottsville Fire Department and Pope County EMS 131 arrived on scene.
Upon the arrival of responders, they found a silver Buick Lacrosse that had sustained heavy damage to its front end after striking a tree just off of the roadway.
Contact was made with the driver of the car and his two passengers and dispatch was advised that there was no entrapment. At that time, Pope County EMS Rescue 140 was canceled.
As EMS personnel and Pottsville firefighters tended to the injured patients, officers with the Pottsville Police Department began investigating the single vehicle crash. During the investigation, officers determined that the crash occurred as the vehicle was traveling at an extremely high rate of speed when it became airborne after crossing over a hill. The driver then lost control of the car and it came to rest after striking the tree head on. The driver and two passengers were all injured in the crash and were transported by Pope County EMS to Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center for treatment.
After continuing the investigation, the driver, identified as Adam Bernadino Morales, 19, was later arrested by the Pottsville Police Department and transported to the Pope County Detention Center. Morales is accused of Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Reckless or Negligent Driving, No Insurance and Improper Use of Registration.
