Cycling for MSF
Dr Unni is taking a pause from his professional life and embarking on a bicycle ride in his homeland to fulfill a 25-year dream of cycling the length of the country. He calls his journey Unnicycles.

He will share stories about the patients he has treated, from Azerbaijan to Somalia, the challenges they faced in getting healthcare, and engage people who are passionate about ensuring that healthcare reaches those most in need.

"I love to cycle. As a medical intern in India in 1988, I biked from Delhi to Leh and from Srinagar to Delhi. I dreamt, one day, to ride from one end of India to the other. Twenty-five years later, I am fulfilling this dream and combining it with my other passion, which is to connect with people and to start meaningful dialogues on health and humanitarian action.

18 years working in International Health

Dr Unni has worked in international health for 18 years, He has held field, academic, research, and executive posts around the world, including Deputy Director of Health at the Earth Institute, Assistant Clinical Professor, Columbia University, and for three years (2010 to 2013) as International President of MSF. In 1995, Dr Unni started working for MSF in Eithiopia where he set up a TB control programme. He went on to work in many field projects from Azerbaijan, Brazil, the Congo, and India.
Dr Karunakara holds an MBBS from Mangalore University in India, an MPH from Yale University and a doctorate in public health from Johns Hopkins University in the United States.
