Dr. Steve Dykstra is a psychologist from Milwaukee Wisconsin who has worked in mental health systems serving children for 30 years. Along they way he wandered into the world of reading and literacy because so many of the children he knew were struggling to read, and so many of the adults trying to help, like him, seemed lost.
In this presentation given at The Reading League's 2018 Annual Conference, he helps the layperson understand statistics and research.
Description of presentation from conference program: "We all want to love research but a lot of us hate math. Learn a lot about research, how to read it, how to judge it, all without doing any math. Examples will include studies of Reading Recovery and LLI. We’ll take a tour of flaws in the research. The holes are big, so we’ll all fit just fine. It will be fun. I promise. No calculator required."
