STORYLINE
Britain came to a standstill at midday (1100gmt)on Friday as the nation observed two minutes of silence to remember the victims of the London bombings.
Office workers stood in homage on the steps of St Paul's Cathedral as the cathedral bell tolled the midday hour, commemorated the moment when the first suicide bombers in western Europe killed 52 people along with themselves in coordinated attacks on the transit system.
Crowds also gathered at the four sites when the bombers struck, including the underground stations at King's Cross and Edgware Road.
Officials said British Prime Minister Tony Blair visited London fire fighters and stood silently with them as the two minutes passed.
The Queen marked the moment at St Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh.
