The 13th Amendment abolished slavery in the United States — but included one caveat that allowed slavery to be used as a punishment for crime, a loophole that’s resulted in unsafe and grueling working conditions for incarcerated individuals who often earn mere pennies for their labor, if they're even compensated at all.
The End The Exception campaign seeks to close this loophole by passing the Abolition Amendment, eliminating the ‘exceptions clause’ from the Constitution and ensuring that slavery could no longer be used as punishment for crime.
