At least one person was killed and around 11 were injured in Ukrainian city of Kharkiv after Russian shelling hit the city's Academy of Public Administration on Friday morning.
The academy's flagship building was almost entirely razed to the ground and surrounding buildings sustained heavy damage, giving rescuers a complex task of searching the entire neighbourhood for survivors.
Rescuers found one man who was trapped under three meters (10 feet) of rubble for some eight hours, but was largely unharmed when pulled out.
Spokesman for the regional division of the national emergency services, Yevgen Vasylenko, told the Associated Press that the strike of the academy started fires in nearby buildings as well.
The largely Russian-speaking northeastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv became one of the first to bear the brunt of the Russian forces and remains subject to airstrikes and shelling on a regular basis, nearly a month into the offensive.
