Navies Climate Change And A New Environment

Navies are on the front line of climate and environmental changes and their impact on global stability and security. Whether it is rising sea levels and their impact on coastal communities and migration, maritime boundary disputes, the condition of the seas and how it affects the global economy and marine resources such as fish stocks, or ice melt in the Arctic and the potential to open new shipping routes, these developments will influence where and how navies deploy, as well as future operational priorities and requirements. This includes a more sustainable approach to posture and operations.

Shiloh Fetzek, Dr Alessio Patalano, Mark Thompson and Vice Admiral Jerry Kyd explore how navies can both react to and influence these changes, making particular reference to how the Royal Navy is approaching the challenges and opportunities involved.
