Join criminal justice reform champion Congressman Bobby Scott for a discussion about the origins of mass incarceration, ending our addiction to prisons, and how we can reinvest those savings in our communities. This panel brings together scholars, public policy experts, and community investment leaders from across the country to discuss how states and localities can begin to shift money away from incarceration, the alternatives to prison, and ultimately, how to heal communities damaged by mass incarceration. Together, we will learn about new scholarship for defunding prisons, discuss local reform models and challenges, and hear about re-entry programs and community investment. This panel examines what it means to end our addiction to prison, how we can we implement it in practice, and where those dollars should go for maximum impact. Sponsored by FWD.us.
