The ongoing diplomatic row between India and Canada has taken a new twist. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has admitted that his claims of Indian agents being involved in the killing of Khalistani separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar were based solely on "intelligence" and lacked "hard evidentiary proof." He made this statement during a public inquiry into foreign interference in Canada. In response, India strongly criticised Trudeau's "cavalier behavior." Diplomatic relations between the two countries hit an all-time low this week after Ottawa informed New Delhi that its senior diplomats were "persons of interest" in the Nijjar murder investigation. India categorically rejected the allegations, attributing them to the "political agenda" of the Trudeau government. Soon, New Delhi expelled six Canadian diplomats and recalled its own officials. Today, India's Ministry of External Affairs slammed the Trudeau government for failing to present any evidence and accused it of attempting to "smear" India's image.
