While most HPV infections will go away on their own and not cause any symptoms, infection can sometimes lead to genital warts and cancers such as penile cancer, as well as head and neck cancers.
When the HPV vaccine was initially approved for use in Canada in 2006, it was only offered to girls. However, this is no longer the case. The HPV vaccine is now recommended for all children and adolescents starting as young as 9 years of age. It is also recommended for men.
