When the United States’ Supreme Court issued its decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization in 2022 ending the federal right to abortion, the US became only the third country in this century to counter the global trend of expanding access to legal abortion. Given the US’s outsized influence on sexual and reproductive health in the past, this session will address what the Dobbs decision is and how it has impacted people in the US, new findings from research on the impacts of the Dobbs decision across four countries, and organized responses to this decision and other conservative, anti-rights forces in Latin America and Sub-Saharan Africa. We will hear from experts on each of these topics and moderate a discussion with all session participants.
