Covid 19 Convalescent Plasma Safety Update

Dr. Michael Joyner, a Physiologist and Anesthesiologist at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, reviews results of his article appearing in the September 2020 issue of Mayo Clinic Proceedings. Using antibody-rich plasma from patients who recovered from COVID-19, this research was done to establish the safety of the infusion given to extremely ill hospitalized patients. Using a scale of not-related, possibly-related, probably-related, and related, he found most reactions to the plasma fell in the possibly or probably related. The next steps for this research are to determine the efficacy of the treatment and to determine the optimal time of delivery for the treatment. Available at: mayocl.in/30vKl1U
