Coronaviruscovid19 Update July 22 2020

Albany County Executive Daniel P. McCoy announced today that as of this morning, there have now been 2,139 confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 in Albany County to date, an increase of 14 since yesterday. Additionally, there are now 664 people under mandatory quarantine, up from 578. The five-day average for new daily positive cases is now up to 12 from 11.8 yesterday. There are currently 84 active cases, up from 77 yesterday. So far, 6,614 individuals have completed quarantine, while 2,055 of them have tested positive and recovered, which is up 7.

There are still currently three individuals hospitalized and the hospitalization rate remains at 0.14%. One individual remains in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The county’s death toll remains at 122 people who have passed away from COVID-19 since the outbreak began.

Of the new positive cases reported today, one is a close contact to a positive case, two are healthcare workers, four are a family who had reported traveling out of state and three did not have a clear source of transmission. Four of today’s announced positives were linked to those who either attended the Fourth of July party on Hudson Avenue in Albany or were with the same group of people on July 3rd or July 5th, and two of yesterday’s positives were as well. County Executive McCoy continues to urge those who attended the party to call the Albany County Department of Health at (518) 447-4640 to get expedited testing.

“We now have 28 positive cases that have been in some way linked back to the massive Fourth of July party on Hudson Avenue in Albany or the days surrounding it. While having this type of party – which also lacked social distancing and mask wearing – was certainly reckless and inconsiderate, we still encourage those who were there to contact our Department of Health for expedited testing. The information you provide is kept confidential, and will only allow us to stop the spread of the virus and prevent the situation from getting worse,” said County Executive McCoy.

In regards to Governor Cuomo’s press release yesterday which listed a COVID-19 death in Albany County, the Albany County Department of Health continues to investigate whether or not this person was an Albany County resident or someone whose residence was listed incorrectly.

Below is the remainder of this week’s schedule for Albany County’s walk-up COVID-19 mobile testing sites, a collaboration with the Whitney M. Young, Jr. Health Center. The schedule is based on demand and mobile site locations are updated weekly based on that need. Testing is for those experiencing symptoms, essential workers and those returning to work by appointment only, after being screened over the phone. To be screened, please call (518) 465-4771.
