Chinese Pm Probed Over Secret Fortune

euronews.com/ China's ruling Communist Party is investigating allegations that the family of Prime Minister Wen Jiabao has amassed a secret billion dollar fortune during his premiership.

The New York Times ran a story on October 26th, accusing the Wen's of earning more than two billion euros since 1998.

The probe is being held at the premier's request and the revelations come as China prepares for a change of leadership.

Xi Jingping will be named as the country's new president for a ten-year term at the Communist Party congress, which starts in Beijing on Thursday.

His main challenge will mirror that of recent predecessors: trying to combine economic growth with political stability.

Xi will take up his new post next March, replacing current leader Hu Jintao, who is retiring after the end of his ten-year term.
