Britain Falls Silent To Mark Armistice Day

Events have been held around the country to mark the 99th anniversary of the end of World War One. People across the United Kingdom paid tribute in Armistice Day events to those killed fighting for their country. As Big Ben struck 11 o'clock in London, people at The Cenotaph - the capital's war memorial - fell silent for two minutes. Held at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, Armistice Day marks the end of World War One in 1918, in which more than 700,000 British servicemen lost their lives. It has since grown in scope since, and now commemorates all those who have died in conflict, not only in Britain but in a number of other countries including those in the Commonwealth, US and Poland.
