Breaking News | UN Secretary-General António Guterres spoke to the General Assembly in New York on Monday, issuing a dire warning on nuclear war and said that nations must renounce use of nuclear weapons. The world is on the verge of extinction as a result of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, the climatic catastrophe, the proliferation of nuclear weapons, and the erosion of international norms and institutions. Action is achievable, the UN head said, but politicians and decision-makers lack the strategic vision to look beyond the near future. He stressed that "we need a course correction."
