On September 21, 2020, USC IIGH hosted David Nabarro, World Health Organization Special Envoy on COVID-19, for a talk titled “Addressing the dual challenges of climate change and COVID-19” with welcoming remarks from USC President Carol Folt.

David Nabarro is former United Nations Under Secretary-General for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Climate Change, and co-chair of the Forum on Climate Change and Health. He currently serves also as co-director of the Institute of Global Health Innovation at Imperial College London

COVID-19 has impacted the daily lives and overall health of people everywhere in the world, and brought to light inequalities in our structures and systems that have long existed. Climate change has long exacerbated inequalities, not only in poor, developing countries, but in industrialized, wealthy ones. The pandemic alongside climate change threats further extend the limited resources available to address them, and ultimately the health and wellbeing of all people. This talk will address the dual challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and climate change, and the ways in which we can work together to address these challenges, and help us all build back for the better.
