Addressing Symptom Management In Ms

Carrie M. Hersh, DO, MSc, FAAN, Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health, Las Vegas, NV, discusses symptom management in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS). While disease-modifying therapies are heavily relied upon for the prevention of inflammatory disease activity and progression, they often have minimal effects on symptoms. MS symptoms are varied and unpredictable, commonly including fatigue, neuropathic pain, cognitive impairment, emotional disorders, and bladder and bowel dysfunction. Dr Hersh talks on the importance of symptom management to maintain patients’ quality of life and the challenges that can arise from the variability and under-recognition of symptoms. This interview took place during the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) 2021 Annual Meeting.
