What would have been the routine end to a school week--- turned into a very serious accident scene Friday afternoon.
This school bus was dropping off students in a neighborhood outside of Chicago --when...

SOT: it stopped at a driveway to off-load a student. As that student got off---the bus was struck from behind by a semi.
Initially listed in serious condition ---police say ---that student was actually ejected as the bus was hit from behind.
Two other children, the truck driver and the bus driver also were seriously injured.

SOT: what we know is that everyone involved was injured--but thankfully none of these are life threatening....
Investigators think the 51-year-old trucker did not see the bus--and one officer believes the driver "may have been occupied inside the cab drinking a soda.

SOT: this has always been a busy and a dangerous roadway...we're gonna have to figure out why this truck driver didn't see this stopped school bus...
