Neuroscientist and zombie enthusiast Brad Voytek applies his neuro-know-how to dissect the puzzle of what has happened to the zombie brain to make the undead act differently than their human prey. That’s in addition to the important work he does on strokes and memory. Growing up, Voytek knew he wanted to be a scientist. His interest in neuroscience grew after his grandfather was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. Voytek is an associate professor in the Department of Cognitive Science, the Neurosciences Graduate Program, and the Halıcıoğlu Data Science Institute at UC San Diego. His research centers on the role neural oscillations and neural noise play in cognition, aging, and disease.
