The long-awaited enforcement date of July 1, 2020, for the California Consumer Privacy Act (“CCPA”) has finally arrived. The Office of the California Attorney General began enforcing the CCPA that very day, even before its implementing regulations (the “Regulations”) were finalized or approved. The Regulations finally became effective on August 14, 2020, but not before the California Office of Administrative Law made numerous changes to the text. And while businesses and privacy law specialists attempt to comply with the CCPA and the Regulations, waiting in the wings is the California Privacy Rights and Enforcement Act (“CPRA”) ballot initiative, which, if passed by California voters in November, will bring even more, significant changes to data privacy practices in the state. Please join Mayer Brown lawyers Phil Recht, Lei Shen and Evan Wooten for this webinar as they discuss the status of the CCPA and the journey of the CPRA and provide notes on what to expect next.
