Plantar grasp reflex demonstration and assessment in an infant / newborn baby. The plantar grasp reflex occurs when a finger or object s placed just under the toes. If the reflex is working properly, the toes will curl and appear to "grasp" the finger or object.

This reflex will usually disappear around 9-12 months of age in the infant.

These reflex assessments help us determine whether the neuro system is working properly in newborns.

In addition, this is something nursing students will want to be familiar with when taking nursing exams such as NCLEX.
