Moodymann Misled 1997

Shelf Notes:
‘Misled’ opens in typical Moodymann fashion. A crowd applauds, fading in from nothing. A Detroit city soundscape rolls past - there’s beeping, jeering, and rumbling. Then, a vocal rhythm which sounds something like a man gulping. In come waves of gritty chords and a percussive rhythm which is rim click-heavy. Save for some filter work, some more jeering, and a female’s occasional “ooh-oooh,” that’s it - there’s the whole track. The galaxy it conjures is a rich, cool one - smooth, but tinged with Detroit grunge. Classic Moodymann.
