Founded in 1788 as an early North West Company trading post, Fort Vermilion is Alberta's oldest community, overlooking the beautiful Peace River. It was first inhabited by Beaver, Dene and Cree First Nations and is home to a wonderful collection of artifacts of historical significance. Today, Fort Vermilion is a quaint agricultural community featuring a hospital and health centre, Mackenzie County Municipal offices, schools, cultural complex, library, banks, grocery and pharmacies.
