As of recently, Microsoft has stopped accepting Windows 7 and 8 keys to be used to activate Windows 10 and 11. People who have previously used a 7/8 key to activate shouldn't be affected whatsoever, as this ONLY affects new activations. If you need to reinstall Windows 10 or 11, it should activate automatically with a digital license if activated beforehand.
This video talked about what has happened, and the possible reasons as to why Microsoft may have done this. It's sad, however I am surprised it let you upgrade for free for so many years. I expected this to end much sooner than it did. Farewell to using Windows 7 and 8 keys for Windows 10 and 11 activations.
